HOW TO WRITE THE AIM OF YOUR RESEARCH

A good literature review helps you develop an achievable Aim. By thoroughly studying literature written by other authors, you are equipped with good understanding of their idea, what their article is trying to relay and the gaps in their content. This gives you a clear ground to come up with an aim, something that wasn’t achieved but you intend achieving, something that wasn’t mentioned but you intend to take up.

Your Aim is what your research intends to achieve at the end of the study. What you plan for your result to look like.

Your Aim should be one-sentence and must highlight your ultimate goal for the research that you are carrying out.

Note: you can only have one (1) Aim of the study.

Let’s now say our Aim of the study is “To examine the User-Demand preference for residential properties in New Haven”

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

Your objectives are your Aim split into a number of things to be done (sub-Aim). Your objectives help you actualize your Aim. These are actions to be carried out which will help you achieve your Aim. So, it’s important you are very meticulous about this aspect of your project or thesis.

Objectives usually fall between 3 to 5 in number. Most researchers use 4 objectives, but I’ll advise you go with 3 achievable objectives if your research topic is not a complex one.

Your Objectives should take the following format:

Sample: let’s take the following as our Objectives;

To identify the type of residential property predominant in New Haven.

To determine the factors that affects preference for residential properties in New Haven.

To suggest solution to improve the most preferred of residential properties in New Haven.
