Please, don’t fail your research!

Failing your research will affect your grades! This is factual and shouldn’t be toyed with.

But why on earth would a student want to fail his or her research?

I have had several students ask me if it was okay to fail research in school and my answer has been “NO” it is not okay to fail research, please don’t fail your research, don’t!

Failure is not an option for any student, when you fail you are drawn back by two steps and if you succeed you are five times ahead.

How do you deal with research failure?

Dealing with research failure starts with you making up your mind not to fail no matter what. It must be a decision you make from the start, then you back it up with work. Work in this case is the inputs you make to ensure you do not have a reason to fail research, not for anything in the world. I know many students failed research in the past and some are still failing, one thing I tell students is not to mess up their years of toiling and hard work in school, you cannot throw all this in a dish by one mistake. If you don’t know how to do research, seek help, all that matters is that you don’t have to fail.

The first thing to do in dealing with research failure is to go back to learning how to do a literature review because it’s the foundation of every academic research. You will need to couch an easy research topic that has enough materials to refer to and that you can easily understand, articulate and defend without much stress. I would advise you to get a research coach even if it’s for a fee to help you master the art of writing a winning research paper. If you don’t have access to a coach, continue by reviewing other related research papers to extract relevant sections and paragraphs that could be useful in yours. Whatever you see on other materials are ideas and concepts you will need to make up yours. The background of the study and statement of the research problem are key in chapter one, master these to generate research objectives and other items in chapter one. Chapter two is already a done deal since you already did a thorough literature review at first.

Chapter three’s methodology is something you can liaise with your project supervisor, research methodology lecturer or a senior colleague to guide you. If you cannot find any of them, send me a message for help.

Chapter four can be achieved with the help of a statistician, while chapter five is something you easily do from data and results obtained in chapter four. If you do thorough research, you will minimize mistakes and finish in good time. The reason many students would say “I hate my dissertation” “I can’t finish my thesis” or “I have the worst PhD thesis” is because they failed to select an easy topic from inception, they chose the difficult or novel topics just to prove a point or impress their supervisor, it is better to go for the easiest topic and bag an “A” than to choose a difficult one and not be able to complete your research work in record time and still get an average grade at the end.

Many students cry because their thesis was done themselves, they were careless and less confident in their abilities, for your dissertation to be good enough you have to be good enough to handle it conveniently, choose a topic you can easily handle or have an expert you can run to for help.

What happens if you fail your undergraduate dissertation?

If you fail your undergraduate dissertation, the following will happen to you:

Your confidence will be affected

You will have to redo the research

Your supervisor’s trust in your ability may be affected

You will end up defending with your juniors in school
